Today’s post isn’t gonna be very eloquent. In hot pursuit. And to be precise it’s about unrepeatable atmosphere of KRAKOW CHRISTMAS MARKET.
Christmas fairs in European cities are not a phenomenon and happen ubiquitously. They start, as a rule, in the beginning of December and go on till Christmas.
Today’s post about how the central Krakow square looks like during this period. By the way it didn’t change since the 13th century together with adjacent streets. Now it’s clear why you always feel an ancient fairy-tale pursuit on you in the city center.
Coming to Krakow during the period of massive celebrations and setting off to the fair like this you can easily forget about all your boundaries related to food. All that proper nutrition, abstinence in fat, fried, baked, smoked, salty, sweet goods goes right to hell. You’ll have a hard time restricting yourself. Fragrances and the sight of all the ingredients being processed right in front of you on the open fire will wake up a belly-god in you.
Pork knee, fresh potatoes, fried mushrooms, grilled meat, smoked sausages, all kinds of processed vegetables, fried onions, the enormous sandwiches with lard, frankfurters, liver and pickles..
What are you thinking? Are you already dripping your laptop with saliva?
Small smoked cheese sandwiches – being made on the grill with bread and cranberry jam. Bagels, pretzels and cakes, with poppies, sesame and dried grapes.
And also hot waffles (by the way called “gofra” in Polish), with jam, chocolate, whipped cream and altogether! Hot tea and coffee and of course flavorous punch to warm up after the walk.
You can try different types of chocolates – any form and color will do, you can bite or sip – whatever’s to your liking.
Are you still hungry? Then go to the café or restaurant! There are plenty of them, with national cuisines as well – Polish, Ukrainian, Georgian, Italian and even Mexican! We, for example, stopped by a warm café with delicious coffee, where have been served a pumpkin cheesecake as in top-notch hip restaurants.
That was our gastronomical excursion!
